UT Bloomberg Certifications
Get ahead on your B-Certs.
Start building your finance skills now. The Masters Investment Learning Center (MILC) offers UT students access to four Bloomberg for Education certifications for $100. This is an opportunity for underclassmen to get a head start on the B-Certs they will encounter in future finance classes while building skills in financial markets, investing, sustainability, and data analysis.
Participation is optional and self-paced. Complete the certifications independently during your semester of access, and add your completed certifications to LinkedIn as digital badges.

We recommend completing the certifications in this order. Times are approximate.
1. Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals (BFF) | 6 hours
Build a foundation in finance and investing, including time value of money, financial markets, and basic financial analysis.
2. Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) | 18 hours
Explore global financial markets, including economics, equities, fixed income, currencies, and commodities.
3. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) | 7.5 hours
Learn about ESG investing, sustainability metrics, and corporate ESG reporting.
4. Bloomberg Spreadsheet Analysis (BQL) | 5.5 hours
Use Bloomberg Query Language in Excel to extract, analyze, and aggregate Bloomberg data.

Cost: $100, nonrefundable. Your registration provides one semester of access to the four certifications listed above.

What to know before you begin
- Your access lasts one semester. Complete as many of the four certifications as you would like by the last class day of the semester in which you register. Plan ahead using the estimated times above.
- Future course credit requires a new class code. If you later take a finance course that requires B-Certs, you must add that course's current semester code so your instructor can see your work. Completing a certification early does not automatically satisfy a future course requirement.
- Your scores carry forward. Upper-level finance electives use certification scores for grading. When you add a future course code, your existing scores transfer, including low scores. Students are typically allowed one additional attempt within the course if needed, so aim for a strong score the first time.
- BFF is the best place to start. BFF is required in FINC 306 and FINC 308 and is graded for completion and effort, rather than accuracy.
- Keep your access code private. Codes are limited and must not be shared. Misuse can affect access for other students.

UT Bloomberg Basics Training
Bloomberg Basics is a proprietary training program created by the Masters ILC for students who want to learn how to expertly navigate the Bloomberg terminal, to download data in Excel, and to analyze data in four market sectors: Equities, Fixed Income, Forex, and Commodities. The purpose is to be able to apply the skills learned in Bloomberg Basics to future coursework and/or on the job site.
Extremely limited enrollment: Due to the limited number of seats, Bloomberg Basics is available only to finance majors pursuing investment-related careers.

- In-person terminal training: Attend in person and use a terminal in the Masters Investment Learning Center (MILC) twice each week during your one-hour class time.
- Required for Torch Fund managers.
